Call me Mami Hostal is a program run by the Hostal del Cielo in Medellín that enables families in precarious situations to host travelers in their homes and receive payment for this service.
Call me Mami Hostal is enabling stay-at-home mothers to host travelers in a peaceful favela of Medellin. All the income generated by the hosting activity goes to the families and the residents of the neighborhood.

These families are selected and trained in hygiene and safety rules, as well as hotel standards and customs. We also mobilize our large community to provide them with material assistance and improve their housing conditions. Finally, we use our brand, know-how and tools to help families acquire and manage reservations, check-ins and payment. In this way, families can work as Hosts in the best possible conditions, and be remunerated for the service they provide.

Families are paid for every night a guest spends in their home. The families receive the majority (two-thirds) of the income generated by this activity. Hostal del Cielo receives a third of the revenue from the activity, for its responsibility and for its management of the communication, advertising, reservations, reception, check-in preparation, administrative check-in, legal aspects, accounting, payment platform and management and traveler relations before, during and after the experience.

With Call me Mami Hostal, Hostal del Cielo promotes community-based tourism that involves the local population in a logic of empowerment. It's a hand outstretched to these families, enabling them to take their destiny into their own hands.
Another major advantage for these families is the ability to reconcile work and child-rearing. By working from home, the mother is present to follow her children's education. The moments of sharing between families and travelers are enriching for the children: they open up to the world.
As for the travelers, they have a unique opportunity in Medellín to live a strong and authentic experience in a working-class neighborhood.
